Nellie Waters Wheeler (Aunt Nellie) (born:1914, died: 1972) Age: 58
Nellie was born on February 24, 1914 and passed away in January 1972.
Nellie was a resident of Commerce, Georgia.
We always loved going to visit Aunt Nellie as she would share stories of growing up on Cotton Street. Sad to say I don't remember many of the stories today but I remember the fellowship and her being very friendly to Susan and I when we would go each week for a visit.
She worked for many years for Bluebell in Commerce, and she worked there until she was unable to continue working because of Rheumatoid arthritis. She told us of how when she was working they would make her take the stairs instead of using the elevator to come downstairs, thinking this would make her quit working because of the stairs. They didn't know how determined that she was to stay working. She said that she would stay upstairs and eat lunch, instead of going down to eat and only come down in the evenings at the end of the day. They then told her that she couldn't eat upstairs, so she would take her some snacks in her purse and work thru her lunch. I believe that she knew as long as she worked that she was fighting the arthritis and winning.

Daughter:
Louise Wheeler Woodall
She married Clifford Wheeler and they lived with Granny Waters on Cotton Street. They had two children, a son Jimmy and a daughter Louise. I don't remember Jimmy much growing up, but I remember Louise, she was about the same age as my sister, Lucy. What I enjoyed most was listening to Louise, Lucy and Juanita singing. I don't believe that there was a prettier sound.

They have two sons, Jeffery B. and Johnny F.
For many years they operated a Peach Orchard Farm. They sold peaches locally as well as in other cities. Their were many summers that I shared with Jeff working grading and boxing peaches before we could ride our bikes down whatever dirt road that was in the area.
After the peaches started dying off, they got in to the business of raising chickens. If I remember correctly they had two chicken houses and they would raise chickens from chicks to full grown in about six weeks. They would keep the lights on at night so the chickens wouldn't roost and they thought that it was daytime so they would continue eating.
