P.Y. Waters Decendents

Here is some of what we have on the Waters family.

P.Y. Waters Parents:

James Polk Waters was born April 29, 1847 and died August 11, 1903.  He was the son of Samuel Waters and Bashie Hamilton.  He married Sarah Peek (born December 1, 1852, died July 31, 1894) on May 10, 1868.  They had nine children.  He married  second Margaret (b. August 6, 1855) on February 6, 1896  (no children).

P.Y. Waters Brothers and Sisters:

1. Hilliard R. ("Head") (b, May 1, 1871) 4 children: Grace, Sarah, Frank, Guy

2. Bashie (born March 13, 1873) No children

3. James David (b. May 20, 1875) 5 children: Clarence, Sam, Jimmy Lee, Ruth, Lois

4. Ruthie (b. March 11, 1879) No children

5. P.Y. ("Pone") (b. April 20, 1881) 11 Children: Howard, Arthur, Thelma, Emory, Nellie,                                                                     Alma, Snooks, Joe, Bob, Dan, Lottie

6. Ether (b. June 17, 1885) No children

7. Clifford Mathis (b. March 30, 1888) 1 Child: Edna

8. Flonnie (b. May 14, 1891) No children

9. Sarah May (Sister) (b. July 5, 1894) No children

Hilliard's daughter Grace married James Leonard Frierson and had 4 children including Rebecca (Becky) who is married to B. W. Hutchins.  His daughter Sarah married Mike Jones and had 3 children including Janie who first married a Burroughs and is now married to Jack Dickson.  Grace's son (Becky's brother) James Douglas Frierson is buried at Princeton.

James ("Jim") moved to SC.  He was a preacher.  His grandson Dewitt  (son of Sam)Waters is also a retired preacher living in Elberton.  Lois's daughter Beverly is married to Frank Morton.

P.Y. moved to Commerce.  His son Joe started a furniture store that is now run by his son Oliver.  Dan and Lottie (married WW Gary) are the only children of P.Y. still living.

Clifford married Susan Hada Fulcher (b. May 2, 1887, d. Jan 12, 1977) on October 3, 1910.  Their only child, Edna Lois (b. February 26, 1914, d. August 30, 2002) married James Stephens Shackelford (b. August 25, 1913) on April 27, 1934.  They had 3 sons:

1. James Edward Shackelford (b. May 5, 1935)

2. Albert Donald Shackelford (b. September 5, 1937) married Lois Stovall (b. July 22, 1940) on June 17, 1961.  They have two children:  Albert Donald (Jr.) (b. June 25, 1965) and Susan Kirsten (b. December 31, 1969).  Susan married John David Dawes (b. November 30, 1967) on July 8, 2001.

3. David Lamar Shackelford (b. January 14, 1944)
