Grey Hill Cemetery

In 1916 some time in the year my grandfather purchased grave lots at Grey Hill Cemetery. He purchased 16 grave lots for $8.00. and that equals out to be $.50 per grave. He had someone to build a retaining wall around the grave lots so that it looked like a family plot.

In July of 1916 they had a son die that was eighteen years old. He was J. Howard Waters. When ever we would visit the grave and ask my dad how he died he always told us that he had passed away before he was born.

On November the 22nd, 1923 they had a baby girl to die. Her name was Ruth Waters, she died with what we would call now S.D.S.

In January 28th of 1937, the second oldest daughter died at the young age of twenty eight. This was Sarah Melennie Waters Turpin. She had five children that my grandparents took to raise along with their other children.

On  February the 11th my Grandfather passed away passed away less than one month of the death of his second daughter. P.Y. Waters (Pony) was only 56 years old.

My grandmother is also buried here and she died in the summer of 1962 on July the 1st. She lived to be 81 years old.

On June the 6th, 1980 their oldest daughter passed away and is buried in the family plot. She was Thelma Goldie Waters Blalock. She left behind two sons and four daughters and she was 76 years old.

On November the 23rd, 2009, Melinnie's (Linnie) daughter Sara Olean Turpin Crane died and was buried in the family plot. She was 76 years old.

There are two other infants buried here. One is our Aunt Thelma's son Maurice who died as a baby and we are not sure of what year.

And the other child belonged to Mildred Gunter Family. The baby's name was Nancy Gunter, and again we are not aware of what year Nancy died.
